Arheologija bojišč - Battlefield Archaeology
Fundacijskim graditeljem Disneylandov in tudi vsem ostalim urejevalcem t.i. "poti miru" in "muzejev na prostem" toplo priporočam v prebiranje. Temeljito in večkratno. Gradiva je za nekaj dni branja.

The Archaeology of the Western Front 1914-1918
Citat:
The surface scars of the Great War are a secret language requiring knowledgeable translation.

Citat:
... A third ethical problem concerns the preservation of sites. Should battlefields be left alone as memorials, redeveloped for tourism, or preserved for the archaeologists of the future? Archaeologists increasingly consider the third option: in recent years, they have become more selective about what and where they dig, so that they do not preclude investigations by subsequent generations ...
Citat:
... It seems that the interest by these groups to make their work public is growing, which is reassuring indeed. Talking of publishing, it is impossible over-estimate the significance of documenting, recording, filing and, preferably, publishing. Without it, work made is soon all lost and forgotten, site and context ruined for ever. Cultural heritage is an interest in common for everybody, it is universal. Inaccessible information is useless. Lots of small-scale excavations and investigations of similar kind have been made, often taking form of happenings, in connection with local history projects, anniversaries, TV-documentaries etc., but due to that they are not properly documented, filed and published, they are lost, both for the present time in the world around and for the posterity. With luck, there is a local newspaper article of it, but as long as nobody mentions it in broader publicity or for the field of research it is inaccessible. The same accounts for collections of different kinds. Taking keepsakes from the battlefields is naturally regarded as harmless, but after some hundred thousand visitors the battlefields are combed clean, leaving nothing for the posterity - the battlefields are quite different today even from how they were during the 1980s, or the 1960s. Nowadays the battlefields are visited by some 250 000 people yearly! Documenting may compensate some of the damage done ...

Citat:
"Now I hate seeing battlefields excavated just for profit and tourism. These preserved battlefields are our heritage and should remain purely as memorials, as they show the lowest point in military history. It is better to leave them in their current states in rememberance of those who died so young for nothing."

Še nekaj teorije z BBC-jevih spletnih strani.

Zanimive in poučne vsebine ima tudi stran " The American Battlefield Protection Program"

Enako velja za razpravo "How Important Is Battlefield Archeology?" (PDF dolžine 1 MB)

Archeology at the Battle of the Little Bighorn
